As noted by the engine management, GM is apparently surveying customers about the potential engine options for Chevrolet Camaro. According to the screenshots posted on the Chevrolet Camaro forums, engine options include two variants of hybrids and a new turbocharged 2.7-liter 4-cylinder.
The study suggests that the latest engine will produce 310 hp (231 kw/314 PS) and allow Chevrolet Camaro to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 5.2 seconds. While the investigation does not go the details, the engine sounds identical to one used in the 2019 Silverado. It can replace the current turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that develops 275 hp (205 kw/278 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 nm) of torque.
Besides being more powerful, the engine will put the four cylinder Chevrolet Camaro on par with the Ford Mustang EcoBoost. This model has a 2.3-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder, which also produces 310 hp (231 kw/314 PS).
The study also mentioned two hybrid variants. The first hybrid is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder, which has a combined output of 365 hp (272 kw/370 PS). This will allow the machine to run from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 4.4 seconds and return the combined fuel economy rating of 30 mpg (7.8 l/100 km/36 MPG UK). It is 5 mpg more than a turbocharged 2.7-liter engine.
The second hybrid version will be based on the 6.2-liter V8 and bring its total power from 455 hp (339 kw/461 PS) to 545 hp (406 kw/552 PS). The extra power will reduce 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time from 4.0 seconds to 3.7 seconds, and increase the combined fuel economy rating from 20 MPG (11.7 l/100 km/24 MPG UK) to 24 mpg (9.8 l/100 m/28,8 MPG UK).
Although the figures should be taken with a grain of salt, the survey involves an entry-level hybrid option that will cost $4 000 and be the same price as the 6.2-liter V8. The hybrid V8, on the other hand, will be $8 000 variant or $4 000 more than the standard V8.
Chevrolet seems to be looking into hybrid engines as a direct response to the Mustang hybrid that will be launched in 2020. The company had stiff lips about the model, but previously said the car would “All about providing a V8-like performance with a lower torque “.
A little more is known about the Mustang Hybrid, but the rumors offered by the model will have an electric motor that is clamped between a 2.3-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine and a 10-speed automatic gearbox. This can allow the machine to have about 400 hp (298 kw/405 PS) and run from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in less than five seconds.
